C&G 2393-10 - Part P Building Regulations

What is Part P?

When talking about Part P, what we refer to is Part P of the Building Regulations 2010. In other words, Approved Document Part P is that part of the Building Regulations which deals with electrical safety within a domestic dwelling.

In order to comply with statutory regulations (the law), such as the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR) 1989, electricians must follow non-statutory regulations such as the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 IET Wiring Regulation 18th Edition and the Building Regulations 2010 (when working in domestic dwellings).

In other words, electricians undertaking electrical installation work within a domestic dwelling must comply with The Building Regulations 2010. Part P is on one of the parts of the Building Regulations.

In order to demonstrate your understanding of the Building Regulations 2010, you could obtain The Certificate in the Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings C&G 2393 Level 3 qualification.

Further down the page, we will talk about what you need to do to obtain this qualification, but first, let’s have a closer look at the Building Regulations.
